The 2023 GOTY Post

Anyone who has visited this little blog before, may notice that I haven't posted anything for a very long time. In fact, I think this is the first post I have made in about a year or so, which is kind of disappointing if I say so myself. There's no dramatic reason behind the absence, and there's no incredible story to act as an excuse; other than the very real fact that life got in the way.

The 2022 GOTY Post

I don't know about everyone else out there, but 2022 ended up being a bit of a flat year for me, especially when gaming. Whenever I try to sum it all up, I keep coming back to a big sigh and a "meh", without anything all that exciting standing out to grab my attention. Not that there weren't good things happening in 2022, as I played a lot of cool games and the year in general felt less tumultuous than recent times, and we all know how much we could do with a little stability in the world right now.

The 2021 GOTY Post

These GOTY posts are always an opportunity to reflect on the year that has passed and think about the ups and downs, which hindsight presents with increasing clarity. I was expecting 2021 to have been a bit better than 2020, but as we all know, that hasn't been the case. The pandemic still rages on and has changed so many aspects of our lives in so many ways, and it would be impossible to think about the year without that striking context.

The 2020 GOTY Post

Whenever I write these Game Of The Year posts, I always think back on the kind of year we had from both a gaming perspective, as well as a general world view. Needless to say, but 2020 was one hell of a year that I doubt many of us will forget for a long time. Sadly though, it's not because of a great line-up of interesting games, but because so many have lost their lives and their livelihoods as a result of the global pandemic.

The 2019 GOTY Post

The last year has been a bit of an odd one for me when it comes to gaming. Throughout the year I played just over 100 games, but most of that time was spent finishing off older titles. I'm writing this so late because I still have a list of games from 2019 that I'm keen to try, but I have to pull the plug at some point and go with what I know.

The 2018 GOTY Post

I've considered a few things this year, as there have been a few questions come to mind while thinking about GOTYs. The first being that from here on out, I'll be considering early access games that reach their full release. I've always wondered if it's best to wait until full release, because I think that once you start selling a game it can (and should) be critiqued. However, for the purposes of GOTY considerations, I think judging a game by its full release is appropriate.

The 2017 GOTY Post

It's hard not to start this post by saying something like "what a year it's been", because 2017 turned out to be one of the most packed years of gaming we've seen for a while. There were so many different experiences available for every type of gamer, which really excites me for what's to come. For now though, let's have a little look back on the last year of games and try and figure out the cream of the crop.

What better way to really get the ball rolling on this blog than by doing a bit of a Game Of The Year post to talk about all the lovely games that came out in 2016?!
