Until Dawn

There aren't many genres that I tend to avoid like the plague, but horror has never really been my bag. The closest I get to modern day horror in media, is classical gothic literature, which is a different beast entirely. When it comes to movies and games, being scared is not something I find enjoyable, and my active imagination always ensures that I feel the spooks.

inFAMOUS: Second Son

What is it about console launch titles that means they all have to be a bit mediocre? It seems like whenever a new system gets released, the creators failed to ever really test some of their new gimmicks in the real world. The sad thing is that games released close to launch have no idea that the new control method or camera will end up being a real pain in the butt.

Knack

For a new console to have a killer game available on release day, it usually takes something special. Recently a whole bunch of people got excited about a new Zelda title gracing the shelves along with the Nintendo Switch. So much so, that the game has outsold the console (at time of writing). When I think back to awesome launch titles I've played, I inevitably draw a blank. Often it's much easier to remember the disaster of a game like Lair (PS3 launch), or some shoe-horned Kinect driven abomination.

Sure it's polarising for folks who need guns and action in their games, but The Chinese Room have shown that they're no slouch when it comes to an experience.
