I'm pleased to say that 'operation quantity' is going quite well. In fact, I present to you another set of doodles that continues to grow. There aren't any digital doodles this week, but they're only a sometimes bonus either way. It's all pens and paper, which is right where I like to be.
Actually I was thinking a little about why I like drawing faces so much, but I couldn't come up with anything interesting. Except that I tend to always start them as a reference to something I've seen. Usually it's an actor in a movie with a particular mouth shape, or grasping eyes; but it's always just a starting point.
Fact is that most of the time I end up with something that looks nothing like what inspired the doodling in the first place. Sometimes it gets close, but more often than not I get distracted and my pen wanders along with the mind.
It's funny as well how something as simple as a surface can influence a dumb doodle. There are a few in this post that came out a bit wonky and off-kilter, simply because I had my notebook resting on one leg. I've taken to drawing away as I'm reclined in odd positions of comfort to watch a movie or the like. So there's no telling how it can mess with any natural adjustments to perspective.
Noticing these imperfections and less than ideal outcomes are an enjoyable aspect of drawing without requirements. At first I found the freedom and open-ended brief a little overwhelming, but I'm pretty settled now and happy to let the lines lead where they will.
