I'm going to blame the holiday season for my lack of content this week. However, I do have a couple of photos to show y'all, so let's have a look and a chat about that instead.
Actually let me first say that there will be more game posts soon (have been playing some awesome experiences), and better sketchbooks in upcoming weeks. I've just been focusing on painting a lot more lately, as you'll see here.
So I'm almost at the stage where I can talk some more about the big project I'm working on, but the key not at the moment is that it requires a lot of paintings. Thus, I've been plugging away at getting them done - you can see some of the ones I've already done on instagram and facebook.
I started off doing one painting at a time, which probably makes sense to most people. However, while facing the sheer volume of work that I need to get done, I figured it might be wise to streamline the process a little. Hence the stack of unfinished canvases you can see in these photos.
The base colours for each painting are quite irrelevant by the end of the process, as they are often covered by multiple layers. Although, they're initially quite important as they designate the basic colour scheme and the rough shapes that go into each image. They act as a bit of a guide for everything that's still to come.
Seeing as these faces are meant to be made up of bright colours and various features, it makes sense that laying down a base coat is worthwhile. Then it's as straight forward as adding in some complimentary shades and highlights to bring out the details. Lastly, I'm giving them all black outlines and white highlights to fit with the pop-art style and help those sharp colours pop.
So even though I have a bunch of canvases "on the go", it's a little daunting to think that the main elements are yet to be done. As well as the knowledge that all the canvases featured in these two photos, only make up about a quarter of the total.
It's a big project after all, so there's a lot to do. I'm hoping to keep updating social media as progress is made, and I'll be getting into more details sometime early this year. At the same time I'm going to keep doodling, but for now this will have to suffice.
Keep it colourful out there!
