For the longest time, I hated the very notion of calling myself an 'artist'. It always seemed like the kind of thing clueless wankers said about themselves in an effort to sound more interesting than they actually are. Perhaps it's because I've always been around musicians and artists, and there have always been a cohort that take themselves way too seriously.

I've often talked about tools and constraints and how limitations can help drive creativity, but sometimes it's good to remember that it's a balance after all. This week I bought some new pens and as reminded just how nice it is to use a pen that's full of ink and hasn't had its nib damaged from use. Turns out there's value to be found on every point of the spectrum.
Whenever Easter rolls around I thank the good gracious creator that she showed me the light and steered me into work that doesn't require baking tens of thousands of hot cross buns on Good Friday. Instead, I've had a pretty chilled out weekend of holidays, and seeing as I have little to do with the big JC, it's an excuse to turn down the noise and relax for four days.
I always find it interesting to consider the relationship between an artist and their work. I often try to consider art for its own merits, as I also like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Fame is a weird mind flood that leaves a lot of people feeling like they know someone they've never met, and attributing value to that non-existent relationship in an irrational way.
