I'm in a bit of a fix this week, as I'm occupied by a different project. It's a big project, so part of me wanted to turn these weekly doodles into progress reports, but that kind of defeats the purpose. In some ways it's exciting to share what we're working on, but I've also learned to try and keep my mouth shut until ambitious endeavours have come to fruition.
Plus, any shift in focus on these weekly posts, will warp the benefits of doodling that I've come to cherish. After doing this for about eighteen months, I've built the habit I was aiming for in the first place, and I look forward to collating it on a weekly basis. In a weird way, this regularity is precisely why it's best to avoid jumping the gun.
What I mean is that there are times that I look over filled sketchbooks and flick through the pages. I've mentioned it before, but taking a step back and looking at the culmination of tiny steps forward can be a great motivator. Each page might not count for much, but an entire book full of doodles and ideas goes a long way to making each step easier.
So as much as I often err of the side of keeping my mouth shut until I have something to show for it, this weekly show-and-tell has been very beneficial. However, that doesn't mean that I'll be forgetting the lessons I've learned in the past. There have been times where I got excited and told everyone about cool ideas I had for awesome projects, only to later change course.
After all, everything is subject to time and unexpected influences, so we can never be sure about anything. What's more, I would argue that every creative person has a million ideas a day, so to talk about all of them can be as exhausting as it is exciting. If I ever allude to excitement over an idea, know that if it fails it doesn't matter, as there are many more where that came from.
Thus, I'll keep it short this week, as I don't have a lot else to say. The only real story is that I've been obsessing over one idea in particular, which I hope to reveal later down the line. Until then though, let's keep on doodling and entertaining all those ideas.
